Welcome!
The Connected Classroom is a teacher-led blog sharing real classroom ideas, lesson plans, and hands-on activities for children ages 2–5. Everything here comes from actual early learning classrooms, designed to support both educators and families. Our focus is on meaningful connection, intentional play, and developmentally appropriate learning.
Who This Blog is For
I’m Colleen, an educator and reading specialist with over 16 combined years of experience in early childhood & elementary learning, and I created this blog to help teachers and families bring joy and purpose into the classroom.
Whether you’re a preschool teacher, homeschool parent, or caregiver, this site is for anyone who values meaningful learning through play, exploration, and connection. Every idea here comes from real classrooms, tested with real children, and designed to help kids grow, explore, and thrive.
Our Philosophy
We believe that learning is most powerful when it’s:
Hands-on: Children learn best through experiences they can touch, explore, and manipulate.
Connection-focused: Positive relationships with teachers, caregivers, and peers are at the heart of learning.
Developmentally appropriate: Every activity meets children where they are and encourages growth at their pace.
